Grand
Turk’s newest dive operation is officially open for business
Bohio Resort is pleased to announce the launch
of its new Scuba Diving and Watersports Operations at Grand Turk’s
Pillory Beach. The resort will offer a full range of diving trips
and courses, as well as sailing, kayaking, fishing and other watersports
activities to Island visitors and resort residents.
The resort, with comfortable air-conditioned accommodation just
steps from one of Grand Turk’s pristine white sand beaches
is ideally placed to take advantage of the region’s fabulous
diving. With its proximity to the world’s third largest coral
reef, protected within a marine reserve, the resort was recently
voted best diving beach by US magazine Men’s Journal. A spectacular
ocean wall, just a few hundred yards away was listed in the top
ten advanced dive sites in April’s Scuba Diving magazine.
Yet the region remains quiet and relatively undiscovered by the
mass market.
Diving attractions include vertical walls, tunnels, vast coral gardens
that are teeming with fish life, sharks, rays, dolphins, and rare
black corals. The annual migration of the Atlantic humpback whale
(January thru April) is worth the trip alone. The resort’s
fast new 36’ catamaran dive boat can comfortably accommodate
divers for excursions around Grand Turk, neighbouring islands and
beyond. Top of the line Seaquest and Aqualung diving equipment is
available to hire, and the resort boasts a state-of-the-art water-cooled
Nitrox Compressor, the only one of its type in the Caribbean.
A natural sandy pool surrounded by a shallow house reef is perfect
for snorkelers, swimmers and novice divers. The dedicated ecologically
minded Bohio team boasts both international and local expertise,
offering a wide selection of PADI courses and extensive knowledge
of the local wildlife.
Aside from diving activities, other new hits at the resort are sailing
boats and kayaks to hire, with lessons and guided trips available,
as well as a weekly sailing regatta, deep sea fishing excursions,
and UPV’s.
Other facilities include a full-size volleyball court, Swedish and
Hot Rock massage, daily yoga sessions, as well as a gourmet restaurant
and lively bars. Award-winning chef Zev Beck’s exquisite menu
has a French, Italian and Asian influence with, of course, a Caribbean
twist. He creates imaginative specials from the local catch of the
day and seasonal ingredients. Another new attraction is his one-on-one
cooking lesson, which can be coordinated with a fishing trip to
collect your own ingredients. There are weekly beach barbecues and
band nights to keep you entertained.
The resort has 16 rooms, 4 of them suites with cooking facilities,
all with glorious sea views and balconies. All rooms are air conditioned,
with ensuite facilities, ceiling fans, fridges and cable TV. Bohio
is the old island name for a home – a name thoroughly befitting
of the welcoming, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere of the resort.
Special diving packages will
be on offer for groups of 10 or more.
