hi everyone,
my name is Abubakar Bashir, an african from Nigeria. my reason for writing to this highly respected and professional forum, is to seek help for answers to my fears and concerns. There seems to be a strong force dragging me for years now into the world of diving, i have deprived myself of all luxuries just to save about 10,000 to get the best commercial dive training either in the Underwater Center or the PDA. My deep seated fear is that having suffered hard to save this huge amount of money over the years, which is millions in nigerian currency, is whether i will be able to break even in the commercial diving industry with the following questions:
1. will the dive training schools accept to train me in the first instance?
2. if they do, will the diving companies employ me giving my background as a black and african?
I ask these questions because some of my friends advise me against doing that claiming that the diving profession is mostly an all white affair and that blacks are not welcomed into the profession and that even if they managed to be accepted they are often segregated upon. Presently iam in a dilemma cos everyday i eat, sleep and drink diving.
please respond to me as soon as possible with the best honest possible advice, thanks.
